Woodbury, CT – On Tuesday, November 18th Schwenke Auctioneers will offer over 340 lots of fresh estate property from estates and collectors from Fairfield, Hartford, and Litchfield Counties in Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey and Philadelphia.

In person preview will be held Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th from 10:00am to 5:00 pm and other times by appointment, and the deadline for absentee and phone bids is noon on Monday, November 17th. The sale will be "live online" streamed through Live Auctioneers and Invaluable and will begin at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 18th.

One standout offering among the many jewelry lots in the sale is a fabulous 22K gold and enameled cuff bracelet by American designer Collette Denton. The bracelet was purchased by the consignor directly from the artist and the cuff is illustrated in the Collette Denton brochure and also personalized by the artist to the owner in the brochure as “the finest bracelet I’ve ever made - Collette.”

From the same collector is a monumental Dale Chihuly rose quartz Pink Macchia Bowl with cobalt blue lip wrap, signed and dated 1986. The bowl measures 15" high, 20" wide, 18 1/2" deep, and was purchased by the owner directly from Chihuly in Wheaton Village, Millville, New Jersey, 1986.

Several fine gold jewelry lots are being sold for two Connecticut estates. Included from a Southbury estate are a David Webb 18K green and yellow gold necklace and bracelet, thick rope chain with graduated diameter, the necklace signed Webb 18K, The necklace measures 17 1/4" long, 1/2" diameter, the bracelet 7 7/8" long. Gross weight is 81.2 DWT. Also a pair of 14K gold and diamond hoop earrings, wavy design set with eight modern brilliant full cut diamonds; approximately .70 CT total weight, G-H color, VS1. 1 1/8" high, 1/2" wide. Weight: 17.9 DWT; an 18K gold and enamel-work watch pendant; an 18K gold and diamond spray brooch; a pair of 14K gold shell form earrings; an Art Deco platinum, diamond and sapphire ring with bezel set diamond shaped stones approximately 1 CT each, IJ color, VS diamonds mounted above three baguettes on each side, approximately .30CT and twelve invisible set synthetic sapphires, approximate ring size 5 and gross weight 10.1 DWT. Further a deco inspired 14K gold, diamond and sapphire ring; an 18K gold and guilloche enamel earring and brooch set; and a miniature portrait on porcelain with a 14K gold frame.

Jewelry items from a New Canaan estate include a 14K yellow gold bracelet, double curb link, signed 14K Indaerre Italy, measuring 7 5/8" long, 1/2" wide, weight 16.2 DWT; a large Romanesque Baccante Lava cameo set in a tested 10K gold bezel; a Tiffany & Co. 14K gold flower spray brooch, signed "Tiffany & Co 14KT Gold M", measuring 2 3/8" high, 1 5/8" wide, weight 12.8 DWT; a Victorian 14K gold slide bracelet; a Janiye multi-karat gold brooch; a pair of 14K gold chain form earrings; an 18K gold Girard Perregaux ladies' watch; a 14K gold modernist brooch; a pair of modernist 14K gold, jade and diamond earrings; a 14K gold and tiger eye brooch; a group of aniye sterling and gold modernist jewelry; a 14K white gold, diamond and pearl brooch; and a 14K gold and jade beaded necklace, multi-color gold beads with brutalist/modernist designs, attributed to Janiye by Miye Matsukata, found in a Janiye box with associated pouch included with the lot. The necklace measure 37" long, gross weight is 53.2 DWT.

The sale includes several lots of sterling and coin silver, many from an estate in Litchfield, Connecticut, including a Gorham Chantilly sterling partial flatware set; a set of twelve Gorham sterling footed goblets; a set of twelve sterling place card holders; a Reed & Barton sterling handled basket; a Georg Jensen sterling bowl; a group of Gorham sterling Buttercup pattern flatware; a Gorham Buckingham partial sterling flatware service; a group of sterling Art Nouveau flatware; a group of Gorham Norfolk-Villa sterling flatware; a group of Tiffany Hamilton-Gramercy sterling flatware; an Italian .800 silver champagne bucket; and an English sterling footed pastry tray, attributed to William Smiley, A.B. Savory & Sons, London, circa 1857, measuring 4" high, 14 1/8" diameter, weight 28.110 OZT. Two Native American squash blossom style sterling and turquoise necklaces are being sold for two different estates.

A Roxbury, Connecticut collector is selling a Nicole Freres Polyphon Disk Player/Cabinet, Leipzig version, penny-in-the-slot, together with carton of discs and provenance paperwork. The walnut cabinet measures 42 3/4" high, 22" wide, 13 1/2" deep.

Chinese decorative arts are plentiful, consigned by estates in Westchester County, New York and Hartford County, Connecticut. Offerings include a Chinese earthenware polychromed jardiniere, heavy glazed earthenware with five toed dragon facing opposite directions, measuring 10" high, 12 1/4" diameter; an early Chinese laquer travel mirror; a pair of Chinese export plates; a fine Chinese coromandel eight panel screen; a Chinese green hardstone wild cat carving; a Chinese polychrome porcelain bottle vase; and a large Chinese blue and white bowl on a carved wooden stand, with Chenhua Nian Zhi marks on base, lotus and bird motif, bowl alone measuring 6" high, 14 3/4" diameter.

Mid-Century items are also on offer, including a Rick Hunter MCM art glass drinks service for eight; a Frederick Warren and Jeff Van Hassel hand blown art glass vase signed on base; a pair of David Ebner twisted wood MCM candlesticks; a pair of Karl Springer MCM nickel and brass andirons; and a pair of MCM brass and glass round tables with ram’s head mounts, attributed to Maison Jansen. MCM art includes a Bernard Cathelin artist’s proof signed lithograph from 1972. Several fine art glass goblets are being sold for a Pennsylvania collector, including two purple goblets and two heart form goblets, all by Lino Tagliapietra (Italy b. 1934); a rare art glass goblet “Flame Goddess” by R. Jason Howard (New York b. 1975); and a group of art glass goblets by Robert A. Mickelsen (Am. B. 1951).

A Rhode Island collector is selling several interesting items including a fine American painted fan back windsor side chair with a Concord, New Hampshire label; a large West African Senufo figure of a kneeling female measuring 37” high; a Native American Eastern Woodlands horse effigy carved ladle; and an exquisite 19th century retablo or lamina, intricately oil painted on both sides of small oval copper sheet. One side, with signature and date: Our Lady of Guadalupe, Virgin Mary; the other: "Allegory of Redemption) or "Las Cruz de Animas" (The Cross of Souls). The central figure is the crucified Christ, flanked by the sun and moon, at the foot of the cross the Virgin of Sorrows and the Archangel Michael are depicted. The skull and crossbones at the bottom represent the skull of Adam, symbolizing Christ's triumph over death. The tiny masterpiece measures 3 1/2" high, 3" wide.

American folk art and furniture are being offered, including an antique steel locomotive and tender, engine no. 136, measuring 11" high, 34 1/2" wide, 11 1/4" deep; an American school folk art pastel portrait of a girl with a ball; an American school folk art portrait of a finely dressed gentleman; a sheet iron weathervane of Angel Gabriel; a stack of four painted Shaker style pantry boxes; and a vintage Nantucket lightship basket. A Connecticut collector is offering a folk art painting by Will Moses (Am. b. 1956) oil on board, winter barnyard maple sugar camp scene, signed lower right "Will Moses, Eagle Bridge ©". Moses is the great grandson of Grandma Moses (Anna Mary Robertson) and works in Eagle Bridge NY. The work has the artist's label verso, and the frame size is 18 3/4" high, 22 7/8" wide.

The lots of American furniture include an early pine oval top tavern table, a New London area cherry Chippendale chest; a Rhode Island swell front federal inlaid chest attributed to Joseph Rawson; a Maryland inlaid federal mahogany butler desk; and a fine Pennsylvania walnut Welsh cupboard.

English furniture includes a fine Regency rosewood marble top slab or serving table from a Connecticut estate; a Regency gilded and embossed convex mirror; a diminutive George III mahogany game table; a pair of Regency inlaid mahogany paw footed cellarettes; a rare pair of Regency curule based mahogany footstools; a walnut Queen Anne arm chair; and a rare Regency carved and ebonized mahogany extension dining table with an accordion action extension mechanism which operates to extend the framework of the table to accept three original leaves and extends the 50” wide table to twelve feet in length.

Perhaps the strongest category in the sale is fine art, including several early 17th and 18th century works from an estate in Newtown, Connecticut, acquired by ancestors in Chicago in the 1980’s. Those works include a work by Margaret Lindsay Williams (British 1888-1960), full length oil on canvas portrait of lady seated with a fan, signed and dated 1931 lower left; Robert Ronald McIan, AKA Robert Ranald McIan (Scottish 1803-1856), who was a Scottish actor and painter, work depicts knight seated with a genie having just materialized out of a bottle, is signed and dated lower left "RR McIan Jan 1852"with a partial collection label verso., frame size 46 1/4" high, 56 1/2" wide; William Maw Egley (British 1827-1916) scene from "Le Medecin Malgre Lui, Act 3 Scene 6, signed and dated 1879, and signed and inscribed on label verso, work exhibited at Annual Royal Academy Exhibit, London, 1879 #1011 in the exhibit catalog; a large evocative fantasy landscape, circle of J.M.W. Turner, oil on canvas “Capriccio Landscape”; manner of Sir Godfrey Kneller, oil on canvas portrait of Jonathan Churchill, Duke of Marlborough; manner of Jonathan Richardson, oil on canvas portrait of Mary Churchill; English school large scale portrait of man in a full bottomed wig; after Paolo Veronese (Italian 1528-1588), gouache on paper, mounted on paper backer and wrapped on wooden stretcher/frame; mythological and allegorical color scene after the composition in oil "Actaeon Watching Diana and Her Nymphs Bathing" presently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston MA; and After A. van Dyck (Flemish 1599-1641) oval bust length portrait of Queen Henrietta Maria of France, after the three-quarter length original now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC.

Another group of early fine art is being offered for an estate in Bedford Hills, New York, including a French school oil on canvas portrait of a noblewoman, circle of Charles Beaubrun (France, 1603-1677) and Henri Beaubrun (France, 1604-1692); a tinted lithograph portrait of Napoleon; and a portrait of a young maiden, attributed to Pietro Antonio Rotari (Italy/Russia, 1707-1762), with auction materials verso "Sammlung Generalkonsul Georg Baschwitz, Berlin", frame size: 24 1/4" high, 20 1/4" wide.

Other interesting fine art includes a rare watercolor “On Shurs Lane Manayunk 1896" by Augustus Kollner (Am. 1813-1906), titled, signed and dated lower right. The work, selling for a Connecticut collector, depicts a scene with coal factory in background, figures and horse in foreground, and the frame size is 15 1/4" high, 19" wide. The same collector is offering a Tiffany Studios “Acorn” leaded glass lampshade with vine border and distinctive and unusual molded glass panels, dimension 5 3/4" high, 14" diameter.

From a Brooklyn collector is a work by Rudolph Carl Gorman (Navajo 1931-2005) mixed media on paper “The Royal Robe”, signed lower left and embossed Strathmore paper mark lower right, frame size 48 5/8" high, 38 5/8" wide. The work was purchase in New Jersey just five days after Gorman died. The same owner is offering an original copyrighted Disney cell “Thumper” from Bambi, and a group of vintage Mexican Oaxacan alebrijes figures in paper mache.

Another Connecticut collector is selling a work by John Lee Fitch (Connecticut, 1836-1895), oil on canvas landscape with stream and woods in foreground, possibly snowy Mount Jefferson in background, named for Thomas Jefferson. The work is signed lower right and is signed and inscribed verso “Near Jefferson NH”, with original frame measuring 21" high, 31 1/4" wide.

Of special interest are a group of early maps and vintage photographs, all professionally framed, consigned by a collector in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Included are Tanner, Map of New England; Streit, Map of Asia; Seutter, Map of Ottoman Empire; Hondius, Map of Southeast Asia; Blaeu, Map of Holstein Germany; Sheda, Map of Caucusus; Sandrart, Map of Europe; and a Johannes Janssonius (Dutch 1588-1664) map of Nuremberg, Germany, titled "Territorium Norimbergense" from "Nieuwen Atlas, ofte Werelt-Beschrijvinge", frame size 20 1/2" high, 24" wide.

Photographs include a vintage Harvard football team photo; a Russian aircraft crew photograph from 1911; a Raquel Welch vintage original photograph 35 mm negative by Terry O’Neill; a temple beggar photo by Leatherdale; a signed Jean Harold photograph of Louis Amrstrong; and a photograph of a Ribari tribal elder by Steve McCurry (Am. b. 1950), signed verso on Magnum Prints label. McCurry is famous for his National Geographic cover of an Afghan girl.

The sale has several vintage and antique oriental carpets, including two fine Caucasian area rugs, a Kazak and a Shirvan, both from the same collector in Fairfield County, Connecticut.
